Recently, an investigation report of a serious incident near Ahmedabad with Air India flight AI 171 has come to light. The incident took place on November 18, 2022, when the aircraft, going from San Francisco to Leh via Delhi, was suddenly coming down towards the ground.
According to the report of the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau of Investigation (AAIB), the main reason for this incident is for the aircraft Abruptation of both engines Was. The report also reported that probably the crew (pilot) of the aircraft either misunderstood the instructions of the auto-quarter (which automatically controls the engine power) or the flight director system’s instructions, or they accidentally stopped the engine due to a technical malfunction. The report indicates that the action was carried out by the pilots.
However, it was a matter of honor that the pilots, showing prudence, took off the aircraft safely in Ahmedabad despite the closed engines. No passenger was hurt in this incident.
The investigation report recommends the pilots to improve the training of new aircraft systems and investigate the auto-quarter system to avoid such incidents in future.
