The time of Pitru Paksha is going on, and whenever it comes to the peace of the ancestors and the peace of their soul, the name of ‘Gaya’ of Bihar comes first. It is believed that by doing pindadan here, the ancestors attain salvation.
Usually we know that Pindadan has the right to sons. But do you know that King Dasharatha’s pindadan in Gaya was not done by his sons, but his daughter -in -law, that is, Mother Sita? And something happened that day, the effect of which is still seen.
What is that whole story?
This story is of the time when Lord Rama, Mother Sita and Laxman ji were on exile. During the Pitru Paksha, the three kings reached Gaya ji to perform Shraddha of Dasharatha.
The story is something like that some essential materials for Pindadan fell short, which Lord Ram and Laxman ji went towards the city. He told Sita ji that he would come back and complete the method of Pindadan.
The afternoon began to pass, but Ram and Laxman did not return. Just then, the soul of King Dasharatha appeared there and he said to Sita ji, “Daughter, I am very hungry, time is coming out, do my body.”
When Sita ji made bodies with sand
Mother Sita got into a dilemma. He had no ingredients of pindadan. Then he took a very unique decision. He raised the sand (sand) of the river flowing there in his hands, made his body and offered it to King Dasharatha.
But witnesses were also needed for the method. Then they present there Falgu River, A Cow, A Peepal Tree and A Brahmin Witnessed this pindadan and said that when Ram returns, he will testify.
And then came the twist in the story …
When Ram and Laxman ji returned and Sita ji told them the whole thing, they could not believe it. He said how is Pindadan possible without material?
Then Sita ji asked her four witnesses to tell the truth. But due to fear of Lord Rama’s anger, Falgu River, Peepal tree and Brahmins, all three lies and said that nothing like this happened.
Only Cow She supported the truth and shook her head and told that Sita ji is telling the truth.
When angry Sita ji cursed
Seeing her witnesses lying, Mother Sita became angry and cursed the three:
- To the Falgu River: “You will always flow under the surface, you will always be sand on you.” (Even today, the river Phalgu in Gaya flows under the sand).
- Peepal tree: “You will always be shivering and your fruits will never be sweet, no one will eat them.”
- To Brahmin: “You Gaya’s Brahmins will never be satisfied, no matter how much you get donations, your poverty will remain.”
And the cow that supported the truth, Sita ji blessed that “Your back part will always be considered holy and you will be worshiped from house to house.”
Due to this mythology, even today, the tradition of making a bodies of sand on the banks of the Falgu River in Gaya is played, which reminds us of the sacrifice and power of Goddess Sita.
