The controversy over a religious program in Etawah, Uttar Pradesh, has now completely taken political color. The case is related to the narrator of a Yadav society, who was allegedly stopped by some people of the Brahmin community from doing Bhagwat Katha. As soon as this incident came to light, Samajwadi Party President Akhilesh Yadav has taken the front and has made it a big issue of social discrimination in the BJP government.
What is the whole matter?
In Etawah, Sandeep Acharya Yadav, a narrator, had to recite the Bhagwat Katha. But even before the program, some local Brahmins objected to this. He allegedly said that only the Brahmins have the right to narrate the story, no Yadav can do this work. After this, he snatched Pothi (Holy Granth) from the narrator and stopped the program, after which an FIR was also registered in the police.
How did Akhilesh Yadav raise the issue?
As soon as the matter came to the notice of Akhilesh Yadav, he immediately called the narrator Sandeep Acharya to the party office in Lucknow. There he not only honored the narrator by wearing a shawl, but also presented him a new book.
On this occasion, Akhilesh Yadav directly attacked the BJP government. He said, “What kind of Ram Rajya is this, where someone is being prevented from narrating the story only because of his caste? BJP talks about everyone’s development, but in reality they are fighting each other by dividing Hindus into caste.”
Akhilesh Yadav has tried to give a message that social justice is in danger under the BJP’s rule, linking the incident with the insult of the Backward Classes (OBC). With this one meeting and honor ceremony, the SP chief has turned this local dispute into a state-level political battle, which is sure to show the impact on the caste politics of UP in the coming time.
