News India Live, Digital Desk: Why do we all run day and night? For “two meals a day”, right? In Indian culture, food is not just a means to fill the stomach but is considered ‘Brahma’. And the goddess of this food, this nutrition – she is Mother Annapurna.

soon Margashirsha Purnima The holy day of ‘Annapurna Jayanti’ is coming, which we and you celebrate as ‘Annapurna Jayanti’. This is the day when we express gratitude towards our kitchen, our stove and our food.

Let us understand in very simple language what you should do on this day so that there is never any shortage of “food and money” in your house.

The story when Lord Shiva became a ‘beggar’
There is a very sweet and deep story behind Annapurna Jayanti. It is said that once there was a famine on the earth. There was neither grain nor water. People became dependent on every little thing. Then to save the universe, Lord Shiva, who is ‘Mahadev’ himself, had to take the form of a beggar.
He asked for alms from Mother Parvati (who is the form of Annapurna) and said- “Bhikshaam Dehi.” Then Mother Annapurna gave food to Lord Shiva with her own hands and promised that no one would ever sleep hungry in Kashi.
This story teaches us that even God’s work cannot function without food, we are still human beings.

What to do special on Annapurna Jayanti in 2025?
This year this festival will be celebrated on the day of Margashirsha Purnima (early December). On this day, it is more important than going to the temple, “Kitchen” To worship.

  1. Kitchen Cleaning: After taking bath in the morning, purify your kitchen by sprinkling Ganga water. This is the corner of the house from where the health of the entire family depends.
  2. Gas/stove worship: The gas stove or stove in your house is the modern Havan Kund. Apply turmeric and kumkum tilak on it. If possible, decorate it with flowers.
  3. First offering: On this day, rice and milk kheer must be made. Before eating, take out a portion in the names of Agni Dev (burn gas and offer it to him) and Maa Annapurna.
  4. Food donation: It is cold season, if you are able to, donate grains or cooked hot food to someone in need. It is said that donations made on this day reach directly to Mother Annapurna.

An oath that everyone must take today
Annapurna Jayanti is not just a day of worship, it is a day of taking a resolution. We often leave a lot of food in the plate at weddings or at home and throw it in the dustbin.
Believe me, Insulting food displeases Mother Annapurna the most. On this day, make a promise to your children and yourself that “you will take only as much as you can in your plate, do not let it go waste in the drain.”

In a house where food is respected and guests are not allowed to go hungry, both Lakshmi and Annapurna reside permanently.

So this time, consider your kitchen as a temple and say with love – Jai Maa Annapurna
