Why do crores of women leave the means of family planning? WHO report opened eyes

Post

Family Planning is considered a very big and essential step for women’s health and their freedom. This gives them the right to decide when and how many children they need. Governments and health institutions have been working hard to spread contraceptive means to women for years.

But, is it enough to only reach the means? A recent report by the World Health Organization (WHO) has raised a very serious and worrying question. The report states that millions of women around the world start using contraceptive means, but a large number of them leave them within a year.

This figure makes us think where is the mess? Why do women stop using what is for their own good?

Not just one reason, many are untold problems

According to the WHO report, there is no single reason behind it, but it is the result of women’s untold and unheard problems that often do not pay attention:

  1. Side effects related to health: This is one of the biggest reasons. Contraceptive pills, injections or other methods may have some side effects, such as – weight gain, headache, change in mood or irregular bleeding. When a woman has these problems, and there is no one to tell her that it is normal or how to deal with it, then she stops her in fear.
  2. Lack of correct information and help: Many times health workers are very busy and they are unable to explain to women about all options or their side effects properly. Women also hesitate to ask questions many times. They are unable to continue it in the absence of correct advice and support.
  3. Family pressure and not getting partner’s support: Even today, in many societies, the decision of family planning is not that of women alone. Many times women have to leave it in the middle due to family pressure or not cooperating with partner.
  4. Misconceptions and fear: There are many misconceptions and fear spread in the society about contraceptive methods, such as – this will cause difficulty in becoming a mother in the future or the body will become weak forever. This wrong information also scares women.

So what is the solution?

WHO says that now we have to think only by sharing contraceptives. We have to create a system where women are heard. They should not be sent only by giving them a means, but should be constantly in touch with them, their problems should be understood and if one way is not suit, they should be given another option.

Family planning is not just a bullet or injection, it is a woman’s health and confidence decision, and she cannot be left alone in this journey.
