Nowadays, cases of high blood pressure are increasing rapidly, and this problem becomes even more serious in winter. In winter, as the temperature drops and the cold increases, the blood vessels in our body contract (become smaller). The narrowing of the veins reduces the space for blood circulation, resulting in a natural increase in blood pressure (BP).

High blood pressure in winter can cause many serious cardiovascular problems. High blood pressure increases the risk of heart attack, stroke and kidney problems. Slowing of blood circulation in cold can cause symptoms like chest pain, dizziness, headache, shortness of breath, fatigue and swelling in legs.

In some people, a sudden increase in blood pressure can cause blurred vision, nose bleeding and even headache. All these signs indicate danger and should not be ignored. High blood pressure patients should keep these things in mind in winter.

Dr. L.H. Ghotkar said that it is important to take some precautions to control high blood pressure during cold weather. First of all, keep your body warm and avoid going out in the cold wind without warm clothes. To maintain smooth blood circulation, light physical activities like walking, yoga or stretching should be done daily.

In this season, people drink less water, which can cause problems like dehydration and low blood pressure. Therefore, it is extremely important to drink enough water throughout the day. Being alert is very beneficial in reducing stress. These habits help in keeping blood pressure stable in winter.

Also important: Bathe with hot water. Check your blood pressure regularly. To avoid Vitamin D deficiency, stay in mild sunlight. Get enough sleep and reduce stress.
