News India Live, Digital Desk: Trade Balance: A new report has surprised everyone! Since the Russia-Ukraine war, countries like America, India have been pressurizing Russia not to buy oil from Russia, and Donald Trump even threatened to put tariffs. In such a situation, it has been revealed that the biggest importer of ‘Naphatha’, an important product made from Russia’s crude oil, has now become Taiwan, not India or China, but a special ally of America.
Yes, Taiwan is the highest import of petroleum products like Nephtha used in the semiconductor industry. Earlier India was at the top in this matter, but now Taiwan has left him behind. In the first half of 2025, Taiwan has imported a napha worth about $ 1.3 billion from Russia. The report states that compared to 2022, Taiwan’s every month’s Russian crude oil product imports have increased by about six times, and it has increased by 44 percent as compared to the first half of 2024. Taiwan needs this cheap fuel for its growing semiconductor industry.
Talking about India, it has also imported more than 1.4 million tonnes of Russian sea napha in the first half of 2025. Due to buying oil from Russia, the US has already imposed an additional 25% tariff on India, causing a total American tariff to 50% on India. The Trump administration argues that these steps are to pressurize India so that it stops importing Russian energy and help end the war in Ukraine. US MP Lindsay Graham even warned that if countries like India, China and Brazil continue to buy cheap Russian oil, then America would destroy their economy. In a proposed bill, it has also been said to put tariffs up to 500%.
Now the question arises that will former US President Donald Trump, who is now again in the presidency, will take similar steps against this special friend Taiwan? Trump has also said earlier that countries buying oil from Russia may have to face more tariffs if they send their goods to America. It will be interesting to see that when its own ally of America joins Russia’s biggest buyers, then what turns their tariff policy. Nephastha is a petroleum product used in the manufacture of plastic, synthetic fiber and other chemicals, as well as it is important for the semiconductor industry.
Meanwhile, the US has also urged India to buy oil from America or other sources instead of Russia. According to some reports, India has also asked the US that if it wants to reduce the purchase of Russian oil, then it will have to lift the restrictions on Iran and Venezuela so that India can buy oil from there. US Energy Minister Chris Wright has clearly stated that he does not want to punish India but wants to increase energy cooperation from it, but India should stop buying Russian oil.
