Why is Pakistan upset with the submarine strategy of India, India’s submarine strategy in the Indian Ocean?:

Post

News India Live, Digital Desk: India is rapidly increasing its strength of its atomic Abschreckung (prevention) in the depths of the Indian Ocean, which is a direct purpose to neutralize any possible threat from China and Pakistan. This strategy of India has made Pakistan sleep, which seems to be a big threat to its security. Pakistani media and defense experts are looking at India’s move as an attempt to create a “nuclear fort” in the Indian Ocean

After all, what is in India’s submarine strategy, so that Islamabad is so restless? Let’s understand.

‘Atomic submarine posted all the time’

India is now working on the strategy of ‘Continuous at Sea Deternce’ (CASD), it simply means that India will always deploy one of its nuclear ballistic missile submarines (SSBN) on sea patrol. These submarines are equipped with nuclear weapons and can keep under water without water for months. The biggest advantage of this strategy is that even if the enemy country causes the first nuclear attack on India, then this submarine, hidden in the sea, has the strength to completely destroy the enemy, which is called ‘Second Strike Capability’, which is very important for India’s policy of ‘not first used’.

India’s powerful submarines

The backbone of this strategy is India’s indigenous nuclear submarines. INS Arihant (INS Arihant) in 2016 and INS Arighat (INS Arighat) has gained further fast since joining the Navy in 2024. These submarines are equipped with K-series ballistic missiles, including the K-15 missiles (750-1,500 km range) are already operational, while K-4 (3,500-4,000 km range) has also been successfully tested.

Not only this, India is now working on huge submarines of S-5 class, which will be able to carry even more deadly and long distance missiles. India aims to make 10 to 12 nuclear submarines, so that the challenges received simultaneously from China and Pakistan can be faced.

Bay of Bengal: India’s strategic trump card

Pakistani defense scholar Iskandar Rahman believes that geography is also supporting India in this matter. The Bay of Bengal is quite calm and deep as compared to the Arab Sagar, which provides an ideal place to hide Indian nuclear submarines and operate without any obstruction, it is almost impossible to track them for the enemy.

Apart from this, Bharat is also building an intelligence underground naval base under ‘Project Varsha’ near Visakhapatnam.[1]This base will help in protecting India’s nuclear submarines and keeping them ready for attack all the time.

Pakistan’s anxiety and compulsion

This fast growing strength of India has put Pakistan in worry. Pakistani analysts believe that this can begin a new competition of weapons in the region. Although Pakistan is also strengthening its Navy, it is still far behind in India, Pakistan is trying to increase its submarine and anti-Sabarine abilities with the help of China, but India’s indigenous submarine program makes it more strategically stronger.

India’s enhancing its nuclear strength in the Indian Ocean makes it clear how serious it is about its marine security. It not only gives a tough message to the enemies, but also establishes India as a great power in the Indian Ocean region.
