Ever since the era of AI (Artificial Intelligence) has arrived, there is only one discussion everywhere – “Are our jobs in danger now?” People are afraid that machines might replace humans. Bosses of some big companies have even said that 40% of jobs can be eliminated by AI. But amidst this atmosphere of fear, a senior Google official has said something that can give you peace.
Thomas Kurian, CEO of Google Cloud, believes that the fear of losing jobs due to AI is completely baseless. He has clearly said that AI is not designed to replace humans but to help them.
AI is not your enemy, it is your friend
Thomas Kurian told in an interview that the real job of AI is to reduce the increasing burden on employees, not to fire them. Nowadays, both work and expectations have increased so much that it is becoming difficult for a person to handle everything alone. In such a situation, AI works like a helpful companion, which makes your work faster and more accurate.
Citing the example of his company, he said, “We created a customer service system based on AI. When we launched it, people thought that customer care agents would lose their jobs. But nothing like that happened. None of our clients laid off even a single employee.”
On the contrary, with the help of this system, customers started getting answers to their questions more quickly and accurately, so that they do not have to call again and again.
AI speeds up work, doesn’t eliminate you
Not only Thomas Kurian, but Google CEO Sundar Pichai also believes this. He says that AI is an ‘accelerator’, not an ‘automator’ (doing the work itself). That means it increases your work speed and efficiency, not replaces you. Sundar Pichai said that with the help of AI, the working capacity of Google’s engineers has increased by 10%, which gives them more time to think something new and creative.
In the words of Thomas Kurian, “The real purpose of AI is to keep you in the race in this rapidly changing world, not to take you out of the race.”
So the next time someone says AI will take over your job, don’t panic, because the truth is probably quite the opposite!
