RBI has released the calendar for the year 2025 for all the banks of India. Apart from national holidays, it also includes state holidays. To avoid customer inconvenience, take a look at the list issued by the central bank.
If your account is in BAK or you want to do transactions in government banks, then it is important for you to know about the bank holidays in the new year. Actually, holidays in government banks are decided on the basis of national and regional holidays. In this, regional holidays depend on the states. Apart from 4 Sundays, government banks also remain closed on 2nd and 4th Saturdays. Reserve Bank of India has released the state-wise monthly holidays list for the year 2025. Let us know whether banks will be open or closed on the first Saturday of the first week of the year (January 4).
4th January is the first Saturday of the month. Customers should note that banks remain open on 1st and 3rd Saturdays. There are bank holidays on second and fourth Saturday. Therefore banks will remain open on January 4, 2025. If the fifth Saturday of the month falls, then work continues in banks on that day also. RBI announced the list of holidays
The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has announced the list of bank holidays for the year 2025. Major holidays include 26 January (Republic Day), 14 March (Holi), 15 August (Independence Day) and 2 October (Gandhi Jayanti). Other holidays include Good Friday, Baisakhi, Muharram, Dussehra, Durga Puja and Diwali. The RBI calendar also includes holidays for different regions, which tell when banks will be closed and when they will be open for customers. However, it is important to keep in mind that bank holidays are decided according to the state. National holidays apply to all banks across the country, while regional holidays apply only to specific states.
State wise bank holidays in January 2025
Banks will remain closed in Chandigarh on 6 January 2025, the birth anniversary of Sri Guru Gobind Singh. Banks will remain closed in Aizawl and Imphal on Missionary Day/Imoinu Eratpa on 11 January. Many states including Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Bhubaneswar, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Chennai, Gangtok, Guwahati, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Itanagar will remain closed on 14 January 2025 on Makar Sankranti, Pongal, Bihu and Hazrat Ali’s birthday. Banks in Chennai will remain closed on January 15-16 (Thiruvalluvar Day and Uzhavar Thirunal), while banks in Kolkata, Agartala and Bhubaneswar will remain closed on January 23 (Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose’s birth anniversary).
You can work through online banking
However, despite scheduled holidays, banks provide online banking facility to their customers. This includes internet banking, mobile banking services. Through this, customers can easily do financial transactions or other tasks. Bank holidays have no impact on these facilities.
