Lucknow. The month of February 2026 is much discussed in terms of banking operations. It is being claimed in social media and various news that banks are going to remain closed for three consecutive days in the third week of this month. Since even today people depend on bank branches for tasks like cash deposits, check clearing and KYC, it is very important to know in which states these holidays are and how much your city will be affected by it. Understand the complete mathematics of February holidays in the reporter style of Amar Ujala.
February 2026: Regular holidays of Sunday and Saturday
As per the rules of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), all banks across the country remain closed on Sundays and the second and fourth Saturdays of the month. Consider these dates in February 2026:
Sunday Holidays: 1, 8, 15 and 22 February.
Saturday Holidays: 14 February (2nd Saturday) and 28 February (4th Saturday).
There will be ‘triple attack of holidays’ in these states (18 to 20 February)
The news of banks being closed for three consecutive days is not completely wrong, but it applies only to some selected states. Work will be affected in these states due to regional festivals and State Foundation Day:
Sikkim: Banks will remain closed on 18th February due to ‘Losar’ festival.
Maharashtra: There will be a holiday on 19th February on the occasion of ‘Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Jayanti’.
Mizoram and Arunachal Pradesh: Branches will remain closed on 20th February due to State Foundation Day.

However, banks in states like Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and Madhya Pradesh will remain open normally on these dates.
Branches closed, but digital banking will remain ‘on’
Even though you may not be able to go to the bank branch and meet the manager, your banking needs will not stop. These digital services will remain operational 24×7:
ATM Services: ATMs will operate as usual for cash withdrawals.
UPI and Mobile Banking: Fund transfers and bill payments will continue through Google Pay, PhonePe and net banking.
NEFT/IMPS: Online transaction facilities will not be disrupted.
Caution: Work like check clearing and making drafts will be done only after the holidays, so plan them in advance.
