However, the latest warning of the Meteorological Department is saying that the rain in May is just a trailer, Meghraja’s real havoc will be seen in June.
Monsoon is moving rapidly in many parts of the country: IMD
The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has said that, ‘This time the monsoon has come to Kerala on May 24, eight days ago. The early monsoon entry has broken the record of the last 16 years. Earlier in 2009, the monsoon entered Kerala on 23 May. According to the latest IMD update, the monsoon is growing rapidly in many parts of the country.
Meteorological Department gave relief news to farmers
The Meteorological Department has said in its latest update on the monsoon-2025 that this time India may receive more than normal rainfall, which is a matter of relief for farmers. Indeed, IMD has revised the forecast of rainfall for June to September, with several changes.
There will be more rainfall this year than last year.
The Meteorological Department has estimated 106 percent more rainfall in the country this year. There may be a difference of only four percent up or down. 105 percent more rainfall was estimated last year. When the rainfall exceeds 104 percent of the average, it is considered more rainfall than normal. There is also a possibility of 87 cm of rain across the country.

Last year, the monsoon entered Kerala on 30 May. While the monsoon in 2023 reached 8 June, 2022 on 29th and 3 June in 2021, while in 2020 the monsoon arrived on 1 June. The southwest monsoon usually begins in Kerala by June 1 and covers the entire country by 8 July. Also, the monsoon goes back from Northwest India around 17 September and from the rest of the country by 15 October.

According to the Meteorological Department, 96 percent to 104 percent rainfall is considered normal. Less than 90 percent of the rainfall is considered less and between 90 and 95 percent rainfall is considered less than normal. The monsoon is very important for the agricultural sector of India. 42 percent of the country’s population is dependent on agriculture for its livelihood and the region contributes 18 percent to the development of the country. Monsoon rain is also important for filling the country’s reservoirs and power generation.
