News India Live, Digital Desk: If you live in Bihar, then you will have to be prepared to face severe cold in the next few days. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert for the entire Bihar, which will remain effective till Saturday, December 28, 2025. Severe cold and cold wave is expected to continue for the next three days in about 29 districts including Patna, due to which normal life may be affected.
Severe cold continues in Patna:
Even in the capital Patna, cold has increased the problems of the people. There was dense fog since morning on Saturday (December 27, 2025) and heavy cold and fog are expected to continue for the next three days. The minimum temperature recorded in Patna on 27 December 2025 was 10 degrees Celsius. According to IMD, there will be no respite from the cold for the next few days, rather the temperature is likely to decline from December 31 itself.
In which districts there is orange alert of ‘cold day’?
The 29 districts of Bihar where the Meteorological Department has issued orange alert for ‘cold day’ include Patna, West Champaran, East Champaran, Sitamarhi, Shivhar, Madhubani, Darbhanga, Muzaffarpur, Gopalganj, Siwan, Saran, Vaishali, Samastipur, Begusarai, Khagaria, Bhagalpur, Banka, Munger, Sheikhpura, Jamui, Nawada, Gaya, Nalanda, Jehanabad, Aurangabad, Rohtas, Kaimur, Buxar and Bhojpur are included. The day temperature in these districts will also be much below normal.
Relief may come from the new year:
The good news is that the cold is expected to reduce slightly from December 31. With the beginning of the new year, cold wave-like conditions will reduce and the temperature is likely to increase, due to which people can get some relief from this bone-chilling cold. However, IMD has still issued an orange alert for all the districts, advising people to remain alert as dense fog may persist.
Travel and health warnings:
Due to dense fog, road, rail and air traffic has been affected. The effect of fog can also be seen on air flights, due to which there is a possibility of reduced visibility at Patna and Gaya airports in the morning and there may be delay in take-off and landing of flights. Passengers have been advised to confirm the status of their flight with the airline before leaving home. Keeping in view the health of children, Patna district administration has decided to keep all government and private schools up to class 8, Anganwadi centers and pre-schools completely closed till December 30, 2025. Doctors are advising to take special care of the elderly, children and sick people, avoid going out in the morning and evening and wear warm clothes. Use fog lights while driving and travel long distances only when absolutely necessary.
