News India Live, Digital Desk: The troubles of Kashmiri separatist leader Yasin Malik, who is jailed in the terror funding case, seem to be increasing once again. The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has strongly demanded in the Delhi High Court to convert the life sentence given to Yasin Malik into death sentence (hanging). In its petition filed in the court, the investigating agency has argued that Malik’s crimes fall in the category of ‘rarest of rare’, hence he should not be spared.

‘Life imprisonment is not enough, the crime is heinous’ – NIA’s strict warning

During the hearing in the High Court, the NIA lawyer clarified that Yasin Malik not only waged war against India but also took the help of foreign funding to spread terror in the valley. The agency says that Malik had confessed to his crime before the lower court, but considering the seriousness of his crime, the life sentence is inadequate. NIA argued that to completely destroy such terrorist networks, it is necessary to send the strongest message.

Exodus of Kashmiri Pandits and bloody history of Yasin

During the hearing, the dark pages of Yasin Malik’s past were also turned over. The investigating agency indicated that Malik was not limited to terror funding only, but his role was also suspected in the massacre of Kashmiri Pandits and their exodus in the 1990s. Cases of attack on Indian Air Force officers are also pending against him. The central government and investigating agencies are now working on a strategy to send Malik to the gallows to root out the ideology of separatism.

The eyes of the country are fixed on the decision of Delhi High Court.

Yasin Malik is currently lodged in the high-security cell of Tihar Jail. The next hearing of this case in Delhi High Court is going to be very important. The court is closely studying whether Malik’s activities have indeed harmed the integrity of the country enough to warrant him being awarded the death penalty. There is a debate going on across the country about whether a criminal’s ‘confession of crime’ can be a basis for reducing his sentence?

Tight security guard in the valley, intelligence agencies alert

Security agencies in Jammu and Kashmir are on high alert after a petition demanding death sentence for Malik. Additional security forces have been deployed in sensitive areas of the valley to prevent any possible protests or unrest. According to intelligence sources, the handlers sitting across the border can use this court proceeding to instigate the youth of the valley, in view of which digital surveillance has also been increased.
