News India Live, Digital Desk: Who doesn’t like rose flower? Everyone wants to have lots of beautiful roses blooming in the pots in their home’s garden or balcony. But what often happens is that we bring a plant, but it either does not bloom at all, or only one or two flowers remain in bloom. If you also have the same complaint, then don’t worry.
You don’t need to be a great gardener. By just taking care of some small things, you too can fill your pot with roses. Let us know how.
1. Choose the right size pot
The first and most common mistake we make is in choosing a pot. The roots of a rose plant go deep and they need room to spread. If you plant the plant in a small pot, its roots will not be able to grow properly and the growth of the plant will stop. Therefore, always choose a pot that is at least 10 to 12 inches or larger.
2. Sunshine is the most important food
The rose plant is the “king of sunshine”. To bloom well it requires at least 6 to 8 hours of direct sunlight a day. If you keep the pot in a place where there is no sunlight, the plant will only grow and will produce very few buds and flowers. So, find a corner in your house that gets the best sunlight and keep the pot there.
3. Make the soil mixture right
Just planting the sapling in plain soil will not help. Rose plant needs soil rich in nutrients. Prepare a good mixture for this. You can make a light and nutritious soil by mixing 50% garden soil, 30% rotted manure (or vermicompost), and 20% cocopeat (coconut shavings).
4. How much water to give and when?
Too much watering is the biggest enemy for the rose plant. In the process of watering daily, many times we cause the roots of the plant to rot. Water only when the soil above the pot feels dry. Check the soil with your finger, water only if it feels dry.
5. Don’t be afraid of pruning
This is the most important work. As soon as a flower blooms and starts drying, immediately remove it by cutting it from the bottom. By doing this the plant uses all its energy in making new flowers and buds. If you don’t remove the dried flowers, the plant will start wasting its energy on making seeds. Additionally, once a year (especially before winter) cut off weak and dry branches of the plant.
By adopting these simple tips, your pot will soon be filled with beautiful and fragrant rose flowers.
