Youth are becoming desperate due to Nepal government’s ban on recruitment in Indian Army.

The Gorkha Regiment of the Indian Army has always been considered a brave and fearsome regiment, in which a large number of Gorkhas from Nepal have been included. Their history is more than 200 years old. However, in recent years the government of Nepal has banned the recruitment of its Gorkhas into the Indian Army. Now the young Gorkhas of Nepal are desperate to become a part of the Indian Army, but they do not know when this path will open.

After the launch of Agneepath Scheme by the Government of India, the Government of Nepal has banned the recruitment of its youth. If new recruitment programs are not started, there will not be a single Gorkha of Nepal left in the Gorkha Regiment in the next 10 years. It is also worth noting that China is also keeping an eye on the Gorkhas of Nepal.

History of recruitment of Gurkhas

Nepal’s Gorkhas have always been recruited in large numbers in the Indian Army, British Army and Singapore Police. Due to low salaries in Nepal’s army, the youth there dream of becoming a part of foreign armies. Nepalese soldiers have been deployed in the Indian Army even during the British rule, and the Nepalese Gorkhas showed their bravery in the Kargil War.

Situation after ban on recruitment

After the Agneepath scheme, the government of Nepal banned Nepali youth from participating in the recruitment rally of the Indian Army. According to a report by Al Jazeera, Nepali youth Shishir Bhattari told that he wanted to join the Indian Army, but now he is preparing to join the British Army. He said that his ancestors had also served in the Indian Army.

Gurkhas are considered one of the most courageous warriors in the world. More than 32,000 Gorkhas are currently serving in the Indian Army. If the government of Nepal had not imposed a ban on recruitment, 1,300 to 1,500 Nepalese youth would have been recruited every year. Every year approximately 20,000 Gurkhas apply for the British Army, of which only 200 to 300 are recruited.

Apart from this, Singapore Police also includes 2,000 Gorkhas. Every year 150 to 200 youth are recruited in Singapore. Due to the ban on recruitment in the Indian Army and limited British recruitment, many youth are now choosing to join the Russian Army, although there is no military recruitment agreement between Nepal and Russia.
