News India Live, Digital Desk: The Punjab Police has arrested Jasbir Singh in a dramatic case that shook the world of digital influencers – who is a person behind the highly popular YouTube channel Jaan Mahal, which has more than 1.1 million subscribers. His alleged crime? Steering.
According to officials, Singh was also working with Pakistan’s notorious espionage agency Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) besides making videos for social media.
A resident of Mehli village in Rupnagar district of Punjab was caught by the Punjab Police Special Campaign Cell (SSOC) in Mohali. Investigators claim that he was in touch with a well-known ISI agent Shakir alias Jatt Randhawa-who is an alleged Indian origin operating for the Pakistani intelligence agency.
But the rabbit bill is even deeper.
Sources say that Singh was also in contact with Danish alias Ehsan-ur-Rahim-who was earlier a Pakistani officer posted at Pakistan High Commission in Delhi. Danish was expelled from India on the charge of espionage. Despite this, Singh allegedly maintained contact with him, which already added another layer of conspiracy to the explosive case.
Even more shocking is that Singh visited Pakistan three times not once in 2020, 2021 and 2024. He even participated in a high-profile “Pakistan Day” program at the country’s embassy in Delhi, where he was seen shoulder to shoulder with Pakistani military officials and Vlogers.
Police say the Singh was closely connected to Yutubar Jyoti Malhotra in Haryana, who was arrested a few weeks ago on a similar espionage charges and was with him in some of these visits.
During the search of Singh’s digital device, the police allegedly found more than 100 Pakistani phone numbers. After Malhotra’s arrest, Singh allegedly tried to erase objectionable chats and contacts associated with ISI handlers, but by then it was too late.
Arrests do not stop here. So far, seven people have been detained under this espionage network related to ISI. The accused are residents of Amritsar, Malerkotla and Gurdaspur, including people like Falakasher Christ, Suraj Christ and Sukhpreet Singh. He is accused of leaking sensitive information of the Indian Army to Pakistan.
A senior police officer confirmed, “This is a well planned detective gang. We are investigating and we are trying to reach every person associated with it.”
This sensational case has raised alarm bells in intelligence agencies, and has expressed concern about how influential social media people are being implicated in high-dinned international espionage games.
