Sarv petru amavasya katha in hindi: Our elders have a big hand in our lives. As long as they live together, we get their umbrella, and when they leave, their memories and blessings are always with us. Pitru Paksha is the same time of the year when we remember our ancestors, respect them and thank them.

Sarvapritri Amavasya is considered to be the last and most important day of this Pitru Paksha. It is said that on this day, our ancestors i.e. ancestors return to their world after leaving us. There is a very old story related to this day, which tells us about the importance of this day.

A story that connects us to our roots

It was a long time ago, there were two ancestors named Agnishwat and Barahishpad. He had a daughter, named Aksoda. Akshoda loved her fathers very much and always used to do something to make them happy. Once he started penance for his fathers on the Amavasya of Ashwin month.

Happy with his penance, all Pitru Dev appeared to give him a boon. But among all of them there was a father named Amavasu. He was very stunning and Akshaoda was attracted to him. When the fathers asked Akshoda to ask for a boon, he asked for Amavasu.

Hearing this, all the ancestors were very angry and in anger, they cursed Akshoda that he would have to leave Pitra Lok and go to the earth. As soon as the curse was received, Aksoda realized her mistake and she started crying crying.

Then the fathers felt pity on him. He said that in the next life you will be born as the daughter of a fish. There you will meet Maharishi Parashar and Lord Ved Vyas will be born from your womb. After this, you will be free from the curse and return to us.

Respect for Amavasu and naming this day

On the other hand, all the ancestors were very happy with Amavasu. He praised Amavasu and said that even after seeing the beauty of a woman, he did not mind, this is a very big thing. In honor of his restraint and stability, the ancestors named the day as ‘Amavasu’, which was later called Amavasya. This is the reason why this Amavasya is known as Sarvapritri Amavasya and has so much importance.

This story teaches us how important it is to respect our ancestors and how much a small mistake can be.
