UPI Digital Payment: India’s digital payment system UPI is now making its mark globally. The new news is that now in Qatar, payment can be made through UPI, which has brought great relief to Indian tourists. NPCI International Payments Limited (NIPL) and Qatar National Bank (QNB), a subsidiary of National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI), have started this facility.

Under this initiative, Indian tourists will be able to pay cashless by scanning UPI QR code in Qatar. This feature will be available on machines using QNB traders and netstars payment solutions. Qatar duty free shops are one of the first places to provide this facility, and soon this facility will be expanded to other places as well.

Symbol of India’s soft power

UPI is not just a payment system, but has become a symbol of India’s digital power and financial technology innovation. Just as Yoga and Bollywood have shaped India’s cultural identity globally, UPI reflects the technical leadership of India. The expansion of UPI in countries like Qatar shows that India’s digital revolution is now being adopted internationally. This step reflects India’s commitment to share its technology for the world’s benefits, increasing the country’s soft power.

Which countries are UPI?

Qatar is the eighth country to accept UPI payment, before Bhutan, France, Mauritius, Nepal, Singapore, Sri Lanka and United Arab Emirates.

What are the benefits of Indian tourists?

Qatar is the second most popular destination for Indian tourists. This UPI facility will protect tourists from carrying cash and the mess of currency exchange. They will be able to pay directly through their UPI app, which will save both time and money.

NIPL MD and CEO Ritesh Shukla said, “This partnership is an important step towards expanding UPI globally and creating an international payment network.”

Qatar’s trade and tourism promote

Yusuf Mahmood al-Nimah, Chief Business Officer of the QNB Group, said that this initiative will facilitate Indian tourists and will also boost the retail and tourism sector of Qatar. This will provide more customers to local traders and will increase digital transactions.

This step is important in spreading India’s digital payment system worldwide. UPI can also be started in many other countries in future, which will make it easier for Indian tourists to pay abroad.
