There is a good news for the metro travelers in Delhi, especially those who travel through the Red and Yellow lines daily. Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has taken a big step to improve the journey on its two oldest and busiest lines. For this DMRC has appointed world famous company Alstom Transport India Limited (ATIL) A special agreement has been made with , which will directly benefit lakhs of passengers.
Why was there a need for this agreement?
The Red Line (Rithala–Shaheed Sthal) and the Yellow Line (Millennium City Centre–Samaypur Badli) are among the oldest corridors of Delhi Metro, having been in operation since 2002 and 2004 respectively. Due to continuous operation for so many years, a need was felt to improve their signaling system. Currently, a technology called ‘Distance to Go’ (DTG) is used on these lines.
What is this new agreement?
The agreement was signed by DMRC Director (Infrastructure) Manuj Singhal and Alstom Director (Commercial) Sachin Deora. This contract is for 6 years, which can later be extended for another 2 years.
The main objectives of this partnership are:
- To overcome the shortage of spare parts: It will be ensured that necessary spare parts for the signaling system are always available, so that any fault can be rectified immediately.
- Getting to the root of the problem: The existing system will be upgraded, so that if any technical fault occurs, its real cause can be detected quickly and accurately.
- Will get expert help: Alstom will provide continuous technical support to DMRC through its experts around the world, so that it becomes easier to solve the problems. Apart from this, the system will also be checked from time to time.
Overall, this move aims to make metro operations on these two important lines more efficient and reliable, making your journey more comfortable and hassle-free than before.
