Assam Govt Builds New Road To Olympic Medalist Lovlina Borgohain’s Home

Guwahati: Indian boxer Lovlina Borgohain has secured a bronze medal at the Tokyo Olympics for India. As soon as Lovlina’s medal at the Olympics was confirmed, the kuccha (unmetalled) road of her village is being repaired now. Local MLA Biswajit Phukan has paved the road, that runs to Lovlina’s house, with sand and gravel and it will be fully repaired soon.

Lovlina Borgohain secured India’s first boxing medal at the Tokyo Olympic Games when she advanced to the semifinals on July 30 after defeating former world champion Nien-Chin Chen of Chinese Taipei. Local MLA Biswajit Phukan took the initiative to build a better road to her home after she assured the country of one more medal. The Assam government has been providing financial assistance to her family since winning her quarterfinals match.

His father Tiken expressed pride, “Now that she has won a medal at the Olympics, the government has built the road and I am very happy because it is like an award from the government to both Lovlina and our village.” Rituraj, a resident, said, “The Assam government has helped Lovlina progress. The Assam CM has provided a total of Rs 5 lakh to help her practice. When the news of her securing a medal came forward, the local MLA spoke to the CM and since then the road has been constructed.”

Family thanks state government

In Guwahati, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma prayed with ministers and MLAs for the success of Lovlina at the Tokyo Olympic Games. The Assam government has come forward to help young talent in the state. Lovlina’s father said, “The government supported us. They have been helping for 2-3 years. Whenever she wins a medal, the government gives us a financial award. That’s why I want to thank the government. The government’s help has instilled the interest of the youth in actively participating in sports.”
