New Delhi: Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Saturday said the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) is working on indigenous counter-drone technology.

“Our campaign against the growing threat of drones is very important today and to check it, the DRDO and other agencies are working on indigenous technology and border deployment will be reinforced soon with the deployment of indigenous anti-drone system,” he said while speaking at the 18th Investiture Ceremony of the Border Security Force (BSF) in the national capital.

The Home Minister’s remarks came weeks after two explosives-laden drones crashed into the Indian Air Force (IAF) base in Jammu.

Referring to the challenges like infiltration, human trafficking, cattle smuggling, arms smuggling and drones, Shah said border security means national security and added “a country whose borders are not secure, that nation cannot remain safe”.

Exuding confidence in the vigilance of the country’s paramilitary forces and their ability to adapt to changing environs, Shah said that by “overcoming all these challenges, we shall secure our borders”.

The Home Minister also issued a stern warning for those attempting to create tensions at the borders.

“Our idea is to have peaceful relations with all but if someone disturbs our borders, if someone challenges our sovereignty, the priority of our security policy is that such an attempt will be replied to in the same language,” he said.
