Chandigarh: Navjot Singh Sidhu, the newly appointed Punjab Congress President, is going to take charge on Friday. Sources say that CM Captain Amarinder may also be present on this occasion. Meanwhile, AICC in charge of Punjab Harish Rawat has said that all Congress leaders will welcome Sidhu tomorrow under the leadership of Captain Amarinder Singh.

The media advisor to the CM said that Punjab CM Amarinder Singh has invited all Congress MLAs, MPs, and senior party workers of the state for tea tomorrow at 10 am. All of them will then go to the Punjab Congress Bhawan to set up the new PPCC team.

According to sources, Sidhu has sent an invitation signed by about 60 MLAs to CM Amarinder Singh. A separate letter has also been sent along with the invitation, in which he states that his agenda is focused on the interest of the public and that there is no personal agenda. Being the eldest person in the house, I urge you to attend the function.

Amarinder Upset Over Sidhu’s Appointment

Congress President Sonia Gandhi on Sunday appointed Sidhu as the new president of the party’s Punjab unit, despite strong opposition from CM Amarinder Singh. Gandhi also appointed four working presidents – Sangat Singh Giljian, Sukhwinder Singh Daini, Pawan Goyal, and Kuljit Singh Nagra – to assist Sidhu in the next assembly elections. The CM’s office had announced that the Captain would not meet Sidhu until he publicly apologised for the personal remarks he had made on the CM.

Sidhu Wields His Strength

After being appointed the Punjab Congress President by the Congress high command, Sidhu wielded his power in Amritsar on Wednesday. Sidhu, along with about 62 out of 80 Punjab Congress MLAs, reached the Golden Temple to pay obeisance. Earlier, Sidhu had visited the homes of over 50 MLAs and met them.

The assembly of MLAs in Amritsar made it clear that the Captain’s camp had shrunk and was leaving him. Most of the Punjab Congress leaders, MLAs, and ministers are now looking forward to their future under Sidhu’s leadership.
