Four people were shot dead in the U.S. capital on July 17 outside a packed baseball stadium, causing the game between Washington Nationals and San Diego Padres to be halted as the thousands of fans were ushered out, news agency AFP reported. Without clarifying the condition of the gunshot victims, Police said currently “active investigation” is taking place after four people were shot dead, but there was “no ongoing threat”.

In the footage posted by some of the fans on social media, many bursts of auromatic gunfire and sirens of multiple police cars could be heard.

Police tweeted officers were “responding to a shooting… in which two people where shot outside of Nationals Park,” in the Navy Yard neighborhood of southern Washington, DC.

“This is currently an active investigation and it appears there is no ongoing threat at this time,” it added.

Shortly after, the department tweeted that “two additional victims associated with this incident walked into area hospitals for treatment of gunshot wounds.”

“We heard what sounded like gunfire. Fans immediately took cover.  The players fled the field. It felt like our stadium was under attack,” Dave Brown who was sitting on the side of the stadium nearest the shooting, told CBS News.
