Indian Navy Bans Flying Of Drones, Private Helicopters Within 3km Of Its Mumbai Installations

Mumbai: In order to deal with the drone conspiracy, Indian Navy’s Western Naval Command (WNC) has prohobited the flying of any authorised aerial drones, Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) or private helicopter within an area of three kms from the perimeter of Naval Installations in Mumbai. 

In addition to this, strict legal actions will also be taken if any individual or civil agency is caught flying aerial drones within these zones for any reason. The Western Naval Command has given clear instructions that if any drone is found within a radius of three km of the headquarters, the Navy will destroy it.

Director General Civil Aviation’s (DGCA) permission is necessary before flying a drone or private ship. A copy of permission letter will have to be submitted to Headquarters, Western Naval Command at least a week before the scheduled flying operation.

The Navy said, “At least a week before the schedule of flight operations, its approval has to be obtained from the website of the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) and a copy of the sanction letter should be handed over to the Western Naval Command here. Flying drones within the area is prohibited. Most of these restrictions are already in place, but these strict rules are being repeated after the recent drone attack on an Air Force technical station in Jammu on June 27.”

According to sources, some suspicious activity has been indicated on the basis of which this decision has been taken. It is worth mentioning that the Mumbai Police has already banned drones. Flying a drone in the skies of Mumbai is not allowed and a strict action can be taken for violating the rules. 

The Indian Navy reserves the right to confiscate or destroy any aerial drones or Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) found flying within these areas without prior approval.
