Kailash Vijayvargiya, Dilip Ghosh Attempt To Persuade Babul Supriyo To Withdraw Resignation

Kolkata: Efforts are being made to persuade Bharatiya Janata Party MP Babul Supriyo, who recently announced to quit politics. According to sources, Kailash Vijayvargiya and Dilish Ghosh have been asked to convince Supriyo to rething over his decision. 

The former Union minister in a long Facebook post on Saturday said he won’t be joining any other party. He initially asserted that he has always been a one-team player but later deleted this part giving rise to speculations.

In an emotional Facebook post written in Bengali, Supriyo had earlier written, ” I have heard everything that everybody said — father, (mother), wife, daughter, one or two close friends .. after hearing, understanding and thinking about everything, I am saying that I am not going to any other political party — TMC, Congress, CPI(M). Nowhere, I can confirm, nobody has called me also. I am a one Team player! Have always supported one team#MohunBagan. Have done only party BJP West Bengal. That’s it!!,”

Supriyo indicated that the decision was partly due to his loss of ministerial berth and differences with the leadership of the BJP’s West Bengal unit. He admitted in his post that the loss of his position as Union Minister of State portfolio in a reshuffle earlier this month is “certainly, partially” responsible for his decision.

Supriyo, a two-time MP from Asansol, is among several ministers who were dropped from the Union Council of Ministers in a major reshuffle on July 7. The singer-politician was dropped from his post as the Minister of State for Environment, Forest, and Climate Change. 

In the last assembly elections, he contested the assembly elections against Arup Biswas of Trinamool Congress and had to face defeat. He had lost the Tollygunge constituency by over 50,000 votes.
