Kochi: Kerala’s first transwoman radio jockey, Anannyah Kumari Alex, was found dead at her apartment in Kochi last evening. Anannyah, who also contested for the state assembly polls, was found hanging inside the bedroom of her apartment, police said.

The police suspect it to be a case of suicide. However, more details with regard to this case will be available only after the autopsy.

28-year-old Anannyah had complained of serious health issues following her sex reassignment surgery earlier last year and had even accused the doctor of medical negligence during the surgery.

Kerala Health Minister Veena George has ordered a probe into Anannyah’s death.

“A transgender organisation had also given complaint regarding this. An expert committee will be formed to study issues related with sex reassignment surgery,” she said.

The state’s Health Minister has asked the Director Health Service (DHS) to also look into the matter. The state transgender association had also sent out a complaint on the matter.

She, however, later withdrew during the last week of the campaigning following internal issues within the Democratic Social Justice Party.
