Mamata Banerjee Pitches For Anti-BJP Front In Delhi, Says ‘Democracy Must Survive’

New Delhi: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, who is pushing for an anti-Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) alliance ahead of the next Lok Sabha elections, said the country’s democracy must survive at all costs.
The Trinamool Congress (TMC) president, who concluded her visit to the national capital, said her meetings with Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) supremo Sharad Pawar and Congress chief Sonia Gandhi were good.
“My Delhi visit was successful. We met for political purposes. The country’s democracy must survive at all costs. Our slogan is ‘Save Democracy, Save Country’,” she told the media here.
Throwing light on her meeting with Sonia Gandhi, Banerjee said she discussed the political situation in the country as well as opposition unity, adding “it was a very good meeting”.
“Soniaji had invited me for a cup of tea. We discussed the political situation in the country. We also discussed the issue of opposition unity,” she added.
Asserting that she will be visiting the national capital every two months, Banerjee said that she has met a number of Opposition leaders and added the outcome of her Delhi visit has been good.
The TMC supremo also downplayed a poser on her 2024 ambitions and said everyone’s motto should be to save the country.
Escalating her attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led government, Banerjee said: “The country must develop. We want development for our people. Currently, inflation is at an all-time high with petrol, domestic gas prices soaring.”
The TMC supremo, who was on a five-day Delhi visit, also met Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal besides other opposition leaders.
