New Delhi: NCP Chief Sharad Pawar met Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday morning in New Delhi. According to sources, Pawar met the Prime Minister at around 10:30 am and the discussion went on for an hour.

Sources revealed that the discussion was related to the newly formed cooperation ministry and Sharad Pawar is considered to be a big influencer in Maharashtra.

Although speculations are rife this meeting can also lead to some changes in Maha Vikas Aghadi as former Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis is in New Delhi.

The meeting comes days after the veteran politician from Maharashtra denied that he is a candidate for the post of the President — speculation triggered by election analyst Prashant Kishor’s meeting with the Gandhis.

Sharad Pawar had also met Defence Minister Rajnath Singh along with Congress leader AK Antony on Friday.

Rajnath Singh briefed them about the border row with China in eastern Ladakh as well as the current situation in the region, people familiar with the development said.

The former defence ministers were also provided with some details about India’s military preparedness in the region during the meeting, which was also attended by Chief of Defence Staff Gen Bipin Rawat and Army Chief Gen MM Naravane, they said.

The meeting took place ahead of the monsoon session of parliament scheduled to start on July 19. The interactions with senior opposition leaders are being seen as an outreach exercise by the government ahead of the session.
