Kanpur. A big update has come out regarding the 94.659 km long Outer Ring Road being built to provide relief to the city residents from the severe traffic jam. In view of the increasing traffic pressure, now this ring road will be converted into 4 lanes instead of 4 lanes. 6 lanes is being made. The aim of this mega-project, divided into a total of five packages, is to complete the entire work by the year 2028 and open it to the public. Once it starts, there will be no need for heavy vehicles to enter the city, which will eliminate the problem of traffic jams on urban roads.

The first package will be completed by September 2026

According to NHAI, 50 percent work of the first package from Sachendi to Mandhana (23.325 km) has been successfully completed. The department has set a target to complete the construction work of this part by September 2026. Project Director Pankaj Yadav has indicated that traffic on this section can be partially started once the work of Package-1 is completed, although the final decision will be taken by the headquarters.

Presenting an unmatched example of engineering, in the third package of this project 3300 meters long on river Ganga A grand bridge will be built. Also on the entire Ring Road:

6 major and 26 minor bridges Will become.

13 flyovers and 9 railway overbridges (ROBs) Will be constructed.

15 vehicular underpass And 55 slab culverts will facilitate traffic.

Direct connectivity to airports and expressways

Kanpur Ring Road will not just be a road but will become a hub of connectivity:

Chakeri Airport: A 1.5 km long link road is being built to connect the Ring Road with the airport.

Lucknow-Kanpur Expressway: It will be connected to the expressway near Kader Patari village, which will cover the distance between Unnao and Lucknow in minutes.

Fast Speed: The maximum speed of vehicles on this 6-lane road has been fixed at 100 km per hour, which will reduce the travel time by 60%.

Travel will be safe with closed tolling system

For safety reasons, the entire ring road 13 toll plaza Are being made. ‘Close tolling’ system will be implemented here, that is, vehicles will be able to enter and exit only from authorized toll points. NHAI claims that with this technology, the possibility of ‘black spots’ (accident prone areas) on the road will be negligible and illegal cuts will be curbed.
