TMC Nominates Former Prasar Bharati Chief Jawhar Sircar As Candidate In Rajya Sabha

Kolkata: The Trinamool Congress has ended all suspense on who will be the next Rajya Sabha entry from the party.
All India Trinamool Congress has announced party has nominated former Prasar Bharati CEO and ex IAS officer Jawhar Sircar as a candidate in Rajya Sabha bypolls scheduled for August 9.

The tweet read, “We are delighted to nominate Mr. Jawhar Sircar in the Upper House of the Parliament. Mr. Sircar spent nearly 42 years in public service & was also the former CEO of Prasar Bharati. His invaluable contribution to public service shall help us serve our country even better!”
Dinesh Trivedi, who was nominated to the Rajya Sabha had resigned from the party in February this year after which he joined the BJP.
Sircar will be filling this vacancy which had a hint of even Mamata Banerjee being nominated to the Rajya Sabha after it was announced that she would be heading as the chairperson of the parliamentary party of TMC too.
Jawhar Sircar served for the government of India for more than four decades in various positions. Sircar rose to prominence as he joined Indian Administrative Service (IAS) in 1975, facing challenges such as communal unrest in West Bengal’s Bardhaman and 24 Parganas districts.
He has been the Secretary of the Union Ministry of Culture till 2012 and also became the CEO of Prasar Bharati, India’s public broadcaster, where he remained until 2016.
The ruling party of West Bengal has finally officially announced his name on July 24.
The EC had asked for all the nominations to be made by 29th July, following which, scrutiny of the nominees would be carried out.
