Tokyo Olympics: PV Sindhu Wins Her First Game, Heartbreak For Pistol Shooters Manu & Yashaswini

Shuttler PV Sindhu started her Olympics campaign on a good note. In her first match itself, she proved why she is India’s biggest hope for winning a gold medal at the Tokyo Olympics 2020.  India’s star shuttler PV Sindhu attained a very easy victory in her first match. Sindhu managed to win the first match in just 28 minutes as she defeated Israel’s Ksenia Polikarpova 21-7, 21-10 on Sunday to win her opening Group J match at Musashino Forets Plaza Court 2. 

The 26-year-old gave her opponent no chance to create any momentum as the the Indian shuttler was looking to ended up winning the match in straight games. Polikarpova tried very hard to make a comeback but Sindhu completely dominated her with her A game.

On Saturday, men’s doubles pair of Chirag Shetty and Satwiksairaj Rankireddy had won their opening Group Stage match in Tokyo Olympics by defeating Lee Yang and Wang Chi-Lin 21-16, 16-21, 27-25 in the Group A game.

Indian shooting contingent woes continues on Day 2 

Participating in her maiden Olympics, world number two Manu Bhaker and world number one Yashaswini Singh Deswal finished 12th and 13th respectively at the Asaka Shooting Range in the Women’s 10m Air Pistol Qualification on Sunday, failing to qualify for the medal round.

After shooting 60 shots on the target, Manu Bhaker gathered 575 points at an average of 9.583 while world number one Yashaswini Singh Deswal ammased 574 points in the qualifications, failing to make it to the 8-player final.
