Tokyo Olympics: Sania, Ankita Suffer Shock Defeat, Knocked Out By Ukrainian Team In First Round

India’s chances of winning a medal in women’s doubles at Tokyo Olympics 2020 are over. After dominating the match at the start, winning the first set 6-0, India’s women’s tennis duo of Sania Mirza and Ankita Raina were knocked out by Ukraine’s Nadia and Lyudmayla, who made a spectacular comeback to seal the match 6-0, 7-6, 10-8 in one hour and thirty three minutes at Ariake Tennis Court 11 on Sunday to end the Indian pair’s journey.

Meanwhile, Tennis star Andy Murray has decided to withdraw from Tokyo Olympics 2020! Great Britain’s star Tennis player Murray, who has twice won the gold medal in the 2012 and 2016 Olympics, had recently said that he was very excited to take part in the Olympic Games but now his sudden withdrawal from the Tokyo Olympic Games has caused major upset for Tennis fans all over the world. Several media reports suggest that he has been injured.

In another shocker today, reigning Wimbledon champion and World No. 1 Ash Barty, has been knocked out of women’s singles tennis of Tokyo Olympics 2020, in the first round.

Shuttler PV Sindhu, in her first match itself, proved why she is India’s biggest hope for winning a gold medal at the Tokyo Olympics 2020. The star shuttler attained a very easy victory in her first match. She managed to win the first match in just 28 minutes as she defeated Israel’s Ksenia Polikarpova 21-7, 21-10 to win her opening Group J match at Musashino Forets Plaza Court 2. 

Indian shooting contingent woes continues on Day 2 

Participating in her maiden Olympics, world number two Manu Bhaker and world number one Yashaswini Singh Deswal finished 12th and 13th respectively at the Asaka Shooting Range in the Women’s 10m Air Pistol Qualification on Sunday, failing to qualify for the medal round.
