New Delhi/Thiruvananthapuram. Just before the release of ‘The Kerala Story 2 – Goes Beyond’, the sequel of the film ‘The Kerala Story’ which created a stir at the box office, a new controversy has arisen. Suddenly a rumor spread rapidly on social media about this film, which is going to hit the theaters on 27 February 2026, that after the order of Kerala High Court, the makers have removed its teaser and trailer from the internet. Now, on these misleading news, the producers of the film i.e. Sunshine Pictures have broken their silence and have put the truth in front of the world by issuing a very strong statement.
‘The news of removal of teaser is completely false and misleading’
Refuting the rumors going on on social media, the makers of the film have clarified that no instructions have been given by the Kerala High Court to remove the promotional material. Sunshine Pictures said in its official statement, “The news of deletion of teaser or trailer is completely baseless, false and misleading. We have not removed any content from our official platforms. The matter is still pending in the court, hence we appeal to the people not to spread such rumors and create false narratives without checking the facts.”
Why did the matter reach the High Court and what are the objections?
Actually, this whole controversy erupted when a petition was filed in the Kerala High Court to ban the release of this much talked about film. The petitioner claims that the story of the film is based on events from many different states, but by simply adding the name ‘Kerala’ in its title, an attempt has been made to deliberately tarnish the image of the state. The petition also expressed strong objection to the slogans like love trap, forced conversion and “Now we will not tolerate, we will fight” shown in the teaser of the film, saying that this threatens to worsen communal tension and harmony in the society. While hearing this petition, the court had also raised questions on the certificate of CBFC and said that it would itself watch the film before its release.
The film will be released on the big screen on February 27.
Despite all these legal and social hurdles, the makers have not given any indication of postponing the release of the film. This film, starring the strong performances of actresses Ulka Gupta, Aditi Bhatia and Aishwarya Ojha, is going to be released on its scheduled schedule i.e. on 27th February. Like the first part, its sequel also boldly attacks the sensitive issue of forced conversion.
Audience opinion divided on social media
This conflict between freedom of expression and regional sentiments is not new for Bollywood. Even before the release of the film, the audience has been divided into two groups on social media. While one section is praising the film for bringing the bitter truth on the big screen, the other section is calling it a propaganda and accusing it of defaming the state. Now all eyes are on the next step of the court and the reaction of the audience at the box office on 27th February.
