Zambian Woman Held At Hyderabad Airport For Smuggling Heroin Worth Rs 21 Crore

Hyderabad: About 3.2 kg heroin, worth around Rs 21 crore in the grey market, was seized from a Zambian woman at the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport here on Monday, the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) said. DRI officers intercepted the woman passenger, who arrived from Zambia via Johannesburg and Doha in Qatar Airways, a release from the agency said. A check resulted in the recovery of an off-white powder concealed in her baggage and the substance tested positive for heroin, it said.

The drug was seized and she was arrested under the provisions of Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act 1985, the release added.

In a similar context, a Tanzanian was held a week ago at Kochi international airport for carrying 5 kg of heroin. The DRI nabbed the Tanzanian on Monday morning with nearly Rs 40 crore substance.
