New Delhi: As many as 100 Indian high commissions and embassies across the world will soon have an Atmanirbhar Bharat corner on their premises to promote Geographical Indication or GI-tagged tribal art and craft products, besides natural and organic products. The Tribal Co-operative Marketing Federation of India (TRIFED) under the Union Ministry of Tribal Affairs is working on the project.

According to a statement issued by the ministry, TRIFED is in the process of sending the first set of tribal products for these corners, which will be an exclusive space to showcase the richness and variety of India’s tribal products.

The first such corners are set to come up at the missions in Jamaica, Ireland, Turkey, Kenya, Mongolia, Israel, Finland, France, and Canada, the ministry said.

The initiative has been planned as India celebrates its 75 years of Independence through Amrit Mahotsav, designed keeping in mind “the spirit of Atmanirbhar Bharat”.

TRIFED has been procuring and marketing tribal art and craft items produced by artisans through its network of Tribes India retail network — both offline and online.

75 New Tribal Items Identified For GI Tag

To mark 75 years of Independence, the federation has added 75 new tribal products launched by it to the extensive Tribes India catalogue.

These exquisite products are sourced from all across the country and include items such as metal figurines, handmade jewellery, wall hangings, handcrafted apparel, masks and also organic produce such as spices, processed juices and herbal powders.

As part of the Narendra Modi government’s INDIA@75-The People’s Movement, TRIFED has also identified 75 more products of tribal origin that will be registered for GI tag under the Geographical Indications of Goods (Registration and Protection) Act, 1999, India.

These 75 tribal products for GI tagging have been identified from 20 Indian states — including 37 from the eight states of Northeast, and 13 from tribal heartland states Jharkhand (7) and Madhya Pradesh (6).
