News India Live, Digital Desk: Bollywood actress Shilpa Shetty’s husband and businessman Raj Kundra is once again in trouble. In a case of alleged fraud of Rs 60 crore, the Economic Offenses Branch of the Mumbai Police (EOW) on Monday questioned Raj Kundra for more than 5 hours. Officials recorded Kundra’s statement at an unknown place to protect the media’s eyes.
The case has been registered on the complaint of a businessman Deepak Kothari. Kothari has alleged that Raj Kundra and Shilpa Shetty had taken about 60.4 crore rupees to increase business in the name of their now closed company ‘Best Deal TV Private Limited’, but instead of putting that money in business, the case was registered in August inste The lookout circular (LOC) was also issued against both so that they could not leave the country during the investigation.
What happened in interrogation?
In EOW’s interrogation, Raj Kundra claimed that the complainant was Rs 60 crore from Deepak Kothari as a loan, which was later converted into equity in the company. He said that out of this amount, about 20 crore rupees were invested in broadcasting, celebrity promotion and other expenses. Kundra also told the officials that for promotion, personalities like actress Bipasha Basu and Neha Dhupia were also paid and handed over some pictures as evidence.
Now Shilpa Shetty’s turn
Initial police investigation has revealed that money was also transferred to other companies associated with Kundra like Satyug Gold and Vian Industries. Now Eow is checking all these expenses and money transactions. Officials say that Shilpa Shetty is the company’s mazority shareholder in this case, so she will be called for questioning soon. An official also explained that the investigation is also being done on why Shilpa Shetty charged celebrity fees from the same company despite being the company’s director.
At present, investigation is going on in the case and police say they may call Raj Kundra for questioning again next week. At the same time, Kundra and Shetty have described all these allegations as baseless.
