The Mahatma Temple in Gandhinagar, the capital of Gujarat, is proving to be like a white elephant. The government itself has admitted that a significant amount of Rs 2.32 crore is still to be recovered as rent. Despite the remaining of crores of rupees, the government is wasting time on small things.

This temple, inspired by the life and philosophy of Mahatma Gandhi, can be locked anytime. The issue of Mahatma Temple was raised in the assembly. The opposition alleged that the fare of Rs 2.32 crore is still yet to be charged from the Mahatma temple.

Lockdown can occur anytime.

Raising the issue of Mahatma temple in the assembly, the opposition questioned the government that when the Mahatma temple owes the fare of crores of rupees, is the government deliberately lax in recovering it? Generally, if a party wants to rent a center, then it has to pay an advance amount, but there is no such thing here. It is being feared that the maintenance of the Mahatma temple is so high that it can be locked anytime.

Government is wasting time: Opposition

The opposition says that the Mahatma temple is being used only for the flattery of the government. Despite the desire of the Congress to give advance amount for the national session, the Mahatma Temple was not rented. On the other hand, the outstanding fare of the Mahatma temple in the last 3 years was Rs 3,33,72,076. The government claimed that Rs 1.01 crore was charged in a year. However, the fare of Rs 2,32,72,076 is still outstanding. He further said that the government itself has admitted that a large amount of Rs 2.32 crore is owed as rent. Despite the fare of crores of rupees, the government is wasting time on small matters.
