News India Live, Digital Desk: Municipal Corporation: There is a major and important news for the residents of Agra city and residents of rural areas around it. Just before the upcoming Uttar Pradesh Panchayat elections, the geographical circle of Agra Municipal Corporation is going to increase. This simply means that the city’s boundary will now spread far more, which will also include many neighboring villages. This decision is not only administrative, but also a lot in terms of economic and development.
In fact, the municipal administration has sent a detailed proposal to the state government in this regard. In this proposal, it has been said to include all those villages in the corporation limit which are currently close to the outer areas of Agra, especially the newly-built external ring road or are coming under the jurisdiction of the Development Authority (ADA). Among them are names like Bainpur, Madua, Bichpuri, Barara, Jagannathpuri, Basai, Dasouni, Barauli, Bichola. These villages were still under the panchayat system, but now they will be completely converted into areas with urban civilian facilities.
The main objective of the Municipal Corporation behind this expansion is to prevent the loss of revenue from continuous development and urbanization in cities. When rural areas develop, business and residential settlements flourish there, but the tax earnings from them are received by the panchayats. The Municipal Corporation wants these areas coming under the urban structure to come under their direct supervision, so that the Municipal Corporation can get income directly like property tax, house tax, water and sewerage tax from these areas. This step will increase the income of the corporation, which can be used to provide better urban facilities.
While the Municipal Corporation will benefit in revenue, the residents of these villages will have a direct impact. They will now have to pay more urban tax than panchayat level. But at the same time, they will also get advanced citizen facilities, which are often lacking in the village. Imagine, now these areas will have arranged roads, better water supply, drainage and sewerage system will improve, regular cleanliness, and streetlights and security arrangements will also be more complete.
It is also important that this is not the first time when there is talk of expansion of Agra Municipal Corporation. Earlier, such proposals were discussed in 2014, 2016 and 2017, but the matter could not reach any conclusion. This time after a high -level conversation, it appears that this expansion may finally take tangible form. It is also important to include these areas in the corporation before the upcoming panchayat elections, because once the panchayat elections are held, it will become legally complicated to add these areas. This step will emerge as a large and developed city, where the benefits of development will also reach rural areas.
