On one hand, there is talk of India’s progress, but behind these shining figures lies a worrying truth which raises questions on the future of the country. Recently released government figures show that it is becoming increasingly difficult for half of our population, i.e. women, to find jobs.
Women’s unemployment rate in the month of September is at the highest level in the last three months. 5.5% But has reached.
The situation is even more serious in cities
This problem is not limited to just statistics, it is becoming the story of every household.
- More than 9 out of every 100 women (9.3%) looking for jobs in cities are feeling disappointed.
- But the most frightening and heartbreaking statistic is that of young women. About 26.4% of young women aged 15 to 29 years have no work. Simply put, more than one out of every four educated and work-ready young women is not able to find a job!
Now there is a strange puzzle in this story too
On one hand, unemployment is increasing, on the other hand, the number of women working or looking for work (LFPR) is also increasing. 55.3% Which is the highest in the last five months.
This simply means that women no longer want to sit at home. They are going out to work after getting education and learning skills… but when they come to the market, there are no opportunities for them!
This is a situation where the will to work is there, but the opportunities are missing.
This is not just a statistic, it is a ‘speed breaker’ in the path of progress.
This is not just the problem of women, but the problem of the entire country. No country can become ‘developed’ by leaving half the population behind. Experts believe that if this increasing unemployment is not stopped, it can put a brake on our economic growth.
Now what is needed is not just talk, but concrete steps – better jobs, right skill training, and an environment where women also get equal opportunities. Because when the daughters of the country move forward, only then the country will truly move forward.
