News India Live, Digital Desk: If you live in Tamil Nadu, Puducherry or its surrounding coastal areas, then the next 24 to 48 hours can be very critical for you. The disturbance in the Bay of Bengal is now seen turning into a big storm ‘Ditwah’. The Meteorological Department (IMD) has warned in clear words that taking it lightly can prove costly.
What is the situation now?
According to the latest information, the low pressure area in the sea is now becoming stronger and is moving straight towards the coasts of Tamil Nadu. The winds which seem cold now, can soon turn into a strong storm. Meteorologists say that as ‘Ditwah’ comes closer to the coast, the wind speed can reach 80 to 100 kilometers per hour.
Most dangerous in these places
The most worrying thing is for those people who live right on the sea shore. There is a possibility of heavy to very heavy rainfall in districts like Chennai, Chengalpattu, Kanchipuram and Cuddalore. The administration has also been put on alert mode in Puducherry.
Dark clouds have started gathering in the sky and the intermittent rain is an indication that the weather may deteriorate significantly in the coming few hours.
Administration’s preparation and warning to fishermen
In view of this danger, the administration does not want to take any negligence. NDRF teams are on standby. The most important warning is for our fisherman brothers. IMD has clearly said that those who have gone deep sea fishing should return immediately and keep their boats on the shore till further orders. The waves in the sea can be quite high and scary.
What should you do?
There is no need to panic, but caution is very important.
- Be prepared: In case of power failure, keep the torch and phone fully charged.
- Avoid rumours: Do not trust every news that comes on WhatsApp, only follow the official information of the Meteorological Department.
- Stay indoors: When there is a storm or heavy rain, stay away from windows and do not make the mistake of going outside. Standing under a tree can be fatal at best.
The weather is changing every moment, so your safety is in your hands. Stay safe, stay alert!
