UP weather update today: Now winter has started showing its true form in Uttar Pradesh. If you were thinking that it is just the beginning of December and it is time for winter, then the morning weather might have cleared your misconception. In many parts of the state, ‘pink cold’ has now been replaced by ‘severe cold’.

While issuing the latest update, the Meteorological Department (IMD) has said that a huge drop in mercury has been recorded in many cities including Lucknow, Varanasi, Kanpur and Meerut. That means, forgetting ACs and fans completely, it’s time to take out sweaters and quilts.

Fog in the morning and cold winds during the day

Today (December 2) morning, dense fog was seen in many districts of the state. In cities like Meerut and Kanpur, visibility was very low in the morning, due to which the speed of vehicles on the highways slowed down. Meteorologists say that the effect of western disturbance and snowfall in the mountains is now clearly visible in the plains.

Cold winds are blowing in the morning which are directly causing shivering in the body. Even though the sun was shining during the day, it was no longer as hot as before. The sunshine now remains only in name and by evening the chill returns.

City-by-city weather conditions

  1. Lucknow: There was light mist in the city of Nawabs in the morning. The Meteorological Department says that the night temperature here may fall further in the coming two-three days.
  2. Kanpur and Meerut: Winter is more severe in these cities. A ‘cold day’ like situation is being created here. That means you will feel cold even during the day.
  3. Varanasi: The effect of cold and winds is more on the banks of Ganga in Banaras. The minimum temperature here is below normal.

Cold will hurt more in the coming days

According to IMD forecast, the weather will remain dry for the next few days, but the minimum temperature will continue to fall. At many places the mercury may drop to 8 to 9 degrees Celsius. Especially in the districts of Western UP (Noida, Ghaziabad, Meerut), the effect of cold will be more visible as compared to Eastern UP.

Caution is necessary

Carelessness in changing weather can prove costly. Doctors recommend that:

  • When going out in the morning and at night, wear full clothes, especially keep your ears covered.
  • While driving in dense fog, use fog lights and keep the speed slow.
  • Protect the elderly and children from cold winds.

Overall, the winter season has now become ‘fully active’ in UP. Take care of yourself and your loved ones!
