Karnataka BJP state president B Y Vijayendra tendered an unreserved apology for objectionable words used against Congress leaders during a recent press interaction. Speaking to reporters, Vijayendra admitted that he lost his temper during a media address in Davanagere while debating sensitive governance matters, resulting in an inappropriate choice of language. “I admit that I used certain words in Davanagere, but I did not use them deliberately. If the Congress leaders have been hurt by my choice of words, I certainly apologise. I have already clarified that I do not speak that way and never do so,” he stated, stepping back from the rhetoric to cool down soaring political friction.
Trigger Behind the Outburst: Reservation and KPSC Controversies
The controversy originated during Vijayendra’s press briefing in Davanagere, where he launched a fierce attack on the Siddaramaiah-led state government over issues concerning youth employment, alleged irregularities in the Karnataka Public Service Commission (KPSC), and internal reservation matters. Vijayendra had sharply questioned whether Congress leaders possessed any sense of honour or self-respect, accusing the administration of engaging in deceit and failing to defend reservation provisions effectively before the Karnataka High Court. While maintaining his policy critique regarding injustice faced by marginalized and backward communities, Vijayendra conceded that emotional agitation led to unparliamentary phrasing that should have been avoided.
Escalation and Backlash Outside Yediyurappa’s Residence
The dispute intensified after protest posters criticizing Vijayendra’s comments appeared near Dollars Colony outside the Bengaluru residence of his father, veteran leader and former Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa. Congress leaders and youth workers had condemned the derogatory tone, demanding public accountability and an immediate retraction. Sensing that the escalating controversy was overshadowing core developmental issues and internal party messaging, the state BJP president opted for a prompt climbdown, issuing the formal apology to defuse hostility and pivot public focus back to policy discussions.
