Writer Hanif Javeri told in ‘Meri Saheli’ podcast that Amitabh and Rekha’s relationship deepened on the set of ‘Do Untjane’. They said, “They both came very close to each other and 100% in love.”
However, in 1982, Amitabh Bachchan had a terrible accident on the set of the film ‘Coolie’. In this difficult time, Jaya Bachchan served her like a dedicated wife and stayed with her every moment in the hospital. This dedication of Jaya changed Amitabh’s heart and he slowly began to get away from the line.
Jaya Bachchan’s ‘lunch plan’ and final decision
According to Hanif Javeri, Jaya had a great lunch for Rekha at her house to get Amitabh Bachchan back. The two sat together and talked together. But when Rekha started leaving, Jaya saw her and said,
“Amitabh is mine. He was mine and he will remain mine.”
This thing of Jaya shook Rekha, and from here he decided to retreat. This one lunch meeting ended Amitabh and Rekha’s relationship forever.
