Hyderabad Police on Sunday registered a case against famous Telugu star Venkatesh Daggubati and three other members of his family for illegally demolishing a hotel. Apart from Venkatesh, a case has also been registered against his nephew Rana Daggubati, who played the role of villain in the film ‘Bahubali’, his father and film producer Suresh Daggubati and brother Abhiram Daggubati. Let us know the whole matter.
What is the matter?
The case pertains to the demolition of their ‘Deccan Kitchen Hotel’ in the Film City area of Hyderabad by the Daggubati family in January 2024. A man named Nand Kumar claimed in the court that the hotel was demolished against the stay order of the City Civil Court and the directions of the Telangana High Court. This property was given on lease to Nand Kumar.
Kumar has also alleged that he has suffered a loss of Rs 20 crore due to this. After this the regional court ordered the police to investigate the matter. Nanda Kumar is an accused in the horse-trading case of 2022 Telangana Rashtra Samithi (now Bharat Rashtra Samithi) MLAs.
GHMC charges and court order
In November 2022, the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) demolished the Deccan Kitchen Hotel and parts of the structure built by Kumar, terming it ‘illegal’. However, later in July 2023, the Telangana High Court sought an explanation from GHMC for this action and directed the Hyderabad Municipal Corporation to maintain status quo. Now on the instructions of the regional court, the police has started action against the Daggubati family.
