In response to major security concerns and law-and-order mobilization surrounding the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) protest in the national capital, rapid transit operations connecting Western Uttar Pradesh and Delhi have faced significant operational cutbacks. The Delhi Police and administrative authorities have placed stringent travel restrictions across key border access points, metro stations, and high-speed transit corridors to prevent mass unauthorized gatherings at sensitive central Delhi sites like Jantar Mantar. As part of these preventive security measures, the high-speed Namo Bharat train corridor has seen its deepest terminal entry points into the capital cordoned off, directly impacting daily office-goers, intercity passengers, and festive travelers navigating the Delhi-NCR perimeter.
Sarai Kale Khan and New Ashok Nagar Stations Shut Down Till 10 PM
The National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC) issued an official advisory confirming that passenger boarding and deboarding at two vital stations inside Delhi—Sarai Kale Khan and New Ashok Nagar—remain completely suspended. The shutdown took effect from 9:00 PM on Friday and continues strictly until 10:00 PM on Saturday, effectively closing access to central and southern Delhi connections for 25 continuous hours. Transport officials clarified that while the overhead viaducts and security infrastructure remain active, trains will bypass or terminate short of these two hub stations to assist local administration in maintaining strict crowd management protocols throughout the day.
Namo Bharat Services Truncated to Run Only Up to Anand Vihar
With deep Delhi stations sealed, NCRTC has restructured the functional timetable along the 82-kilometer Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut corridor. During this restriction window, Namo Bharat rapid rail operations are running unhindered exclusively on the truncated stretch between Modipuram in Meerut and Anand Vihar in Delhi. Commuters journeying from Meerut South, Duhai, Guldhar, and Ghaziabad can travel seamlessly up to Anand Vihar, which currently serves as the temporary terminus for all incoming and outbound rapid train sets. Operations control centers have deployed additional ground marshals and customer facilitation staff at Anand Vihar to redirect thousands of arriving passengers toward suburban transit alternatives.
Massive Commuter Scramble Across Border Nodes and Metro Interchanges
The curbs on Rapid Rail services have compounded widespread transit disruptions across the National Capital Region. Alongside the closure of these two Namo Bharat stations, entry and exit gates at dozens of Delhi Metro stations, especially major interchanges and central district stops, have remained either heavily restricted or barricaded. Commuters arriving at Anand Vihar are facing heavy congestion as they seek connecting auto-rickshaws, city buses, and available suburban trains. Delhi Traffic Police checkpoints at border crossings including Ghazipur, Anand Vihar, and Noida borders have intensified vehicle scanning, causing severe traffic slowdowns. Transit authorities have advised the public to track official social media handles and verify active station advisories before embarking on intercity travel.
