News India Live, Digital Desk: Have you ever noticed? Our favorite heroes of the 90s, be it Salman, Shahrukh or Akshay Kumar, are still playing lead roles on the big screen. Even at the age of 55, he is romancing and washing the villains. But just think, where are the heroines who debuted with him today?
Most of them either disappeared from films, or they started being offered roles of ‘mother’ and ‘sister-in-law’. Famous actress on this discrimination and “double attitude” of Bollywood Dia Mirza Has expressed his frank opinion. After listening to his words, you will also say that “there is a point in it.”
What did Dia Mirza say?
Dia Mirza, who is known for her beauty and simplicity, recently spoke from her heart in an interview. He told how women are gradually removed from the screen with increasing age. He said that a strange “balance” is disturbed in the industry. While for men, increasing age is considered a symbol of their experience and “swag”, for women, increasing age becomes a “full stop” to their career.
Dia said a very important thing – both society and cinema consider the youth and beauty of women as a ‘precious thing’. And as age increases, they feel that no one will be interested in seeing that woman anymore. Therefore, makers stop giving them roles or limit them to very limited scope.
Why different rules for men?
This question comes in the mind of all of us. Dia says that a male actor can age as per his wish, the lines on his face enhance his character. But women always have so much pressure to look “perfect” and “young” that they are not able to enjoy their natural age. They feel that if wrinkles are seen on their face, they will stop getting work.
This is the reason why many excellent actresses, who have a wealth of experience, are sitting at home today or are not getting any decent work. Whereas even today the actors with him are coming as heroes with actresses 20-25 years younger.
Hope for Change
However, Dia also admitted that things are slowly changing. After the arrival of OTT platforms, more emphasis is now being given to stories. Now such characters are being written for middle-aged women as well, who are not just ‘decoration’ but are the life of the story. But still, this change is yet to happen in mainstream Bollywood films.
