Facebook Designates Taliban As ‘Terrorist Group’, Bans All Supporting Content From Platform

New Delhi: With the Taliban taking full control over Kabul and several other parts of Afghanistan, a situation of fear and panic has resided among nationals who have demanded recue from the global community. Their outcries have grabbed wide attention with several world leaders criticising the Taliban for their move.

Meanwhile, the US based social media giant Facebook has decided to ban the Taliban and all content supporting it from all its services under “Dangerous Organisation Policies.”

As reported by news agency ANI, a Facebook Spokesperson said, “the Taliban is sanctioned as a terrorist organiaation under US law and we’ve banned them from our services under our Dangerous Organisation Policies. This means we remove accounts maintained by/on behalf of the Taliban and ban their praise, support and representation.”

“We also have a dedicated team of Afghanistan experts, who are native Dari and Pashto speakers and have knowledge of local context, helping to identify and alert us about emerging issues on the platform,” the spokesperson added.

The social media giant said it does not make decisions about the recognition of national governments but instead follows the “authority of the international community”.

This has come two days after the Taliban entered Afghan capital and took over presidential powers after the US-backed Afghan government collapsed and President Ghani fled the country. Last week, the Islamic outfit had captured Jalalabad, Herat and Kandahar province of war-torn country.

This has brought an unprecedented end to a two-decade campaign in which the US and its allies had tried to transform the war-ravaged nation.
