Sudha Shivpuri not only enchanted the audience with her acting, but also made an indelible mark with her simplicity and liveliness.
Delhi -born Sudha Shivpuri’s life was full of struggles since childhood. After the father’s death at a young age, the entire responsibility of the family came to his mother, who was associated with the theater herself. But later this responsibility came to the youth Sudha, due to which he had to get into the field of acting at a very young age so that the family could be maintained.
Learning the art of acting from her mother, Sudha Shivpuri made a deep grip on the theater. In 1968, he married well-known actor and director Om Shivpuri. The artist couple together established a theater group named ‘Dishantar’, which made a significant contribution to the Indian theater.
Even though he made his initial identity with the theater, television made him a well-known name from door to door. His character of ‘Ba’ in ‘Sasa Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi’ became one of the most prestigious characters in the history of Indian television. The role of this spiritual and loving grandmother gave him so much popularity that people started calling him ‘Baa’ in real. Apart from this show, he also played memorable roles in many other popular serials like ‘Kasam Se’, ‘Tere Mere Sapne’, ‘Vara Sahaya’, ‘Kis Desh Mein Hai Mera Dil’ and ‘Ek Thi Thi Rajkumari’.
Sudha Shivpuri, who said goodbye to this world in 2015, not only earned a big name in the acting world, but also set an example, facing the challenges of his life. His work and the story of his life remains an inspiration for artists and common people even today.
