News India Live, Digital Desk: We Indians have a long and very sentimental relationship with the Oscars. Every year when our films join the race to get honors on foreign soil, the expectations of every cinema lover increase. But sometimes there are some films which win hearts, but perhaps due to some reasons are not able to make a place in that list. Something similar has happened with the film ‘Homebound’, whose exclusion from the Oscar race is upsetting many people.
Famous Bollywood film makers Karan Johar has also expressed his displeasure and sorrow on this news. He said in clear words, “It’s a pity.” According to Karan, ‘Homebound’ is not just an ordinary film, but one of the best films ever made in India.
Often films of such simplicity and depth get buried in the noise of big and glamorous films. Karan Johar’s support testifies to how strong the content of the film must have been. People are also discussing on social media whether we are making a mistake somewhere while selecting films from India? Because a cinema like ‘Homebound’ had the potential to introduce the world to the depth of Indian culture and its stories.
It is one thing for a film to win an award, but for an experienced filmmaker to say that ‘this is one of the best films of India’ is no less than a big award in itself. Although the Oscar race is now over, it has sparked a debate about how great cinema should get the global recognition it truly deserves.
By the way, if you have seen ‘Homebound’, what do you think? Should it have gone to the Oscars? Are we really not able to deliver our strongest films on the international stage at the right time? Please share your opinion.
